One of my favorite bands of all time is the Scottish band Teenage Fanclub. I’ve made this semi-preposterous statement before, and I’ll make it again here — Teenage Fanclub are my generation’s Beatles.
Now, before anyone gets bent out of shape about this statement, let me explain what I mean. When I listen to 99% of the Beatles’ songs, I spend about half the time listening to the music and the other half thinking to myself how perfect their music is. Song after song of pure perfection. Songs that make you understand at a visceral level how important music can be, and how it can make the world a better place to be.
That’s the same way I feel about Teenage Fanclub. They’ve spent the better part of 20 years writing absolutely perfect songs. And no matter how much I hear them, they never fail to put a smile on my face and make a day a little bit brighter.
Anyway, all of that is really just my way of introducing the second half of a live set the band did in Sweden back in 2005. The first half can be found at my other blog. And thanks again to Nargothebort’s Deviant Subculture for posting the show in the first place.
